Sheffield has started the recovery after Storm Babet battered the region with heavy rain and winds.

Residents in Catcliffe, Rotherham wereevacuated from their homes after floodwater engulfed the area.

It is one of the areas worst affected by flooding - bringing back nightmare memories for residents affected by the catastrophic floods of 2007 which saw homes destroyed.

The River Rother also burst its banks in Killamarsh. The river recorded water levels higher than in 2007.

Photos show flood barriers are being installed outside Sheffield Forgemasters.

The major industrial site runs very close to the River Done.

Meadowhall: Flood barriers in place as river level rises near Sheffield shopping centre as Storm Babet hits city

This is the scene at Meadowhall this afternoon, where flood barriers have gone up.

Pictures taken at the popular Sheffield shopping centre, near the M1 at Tinsley, show the barriers in place as rain continues to fall as Storm Babet lashes Sheffield.

The centre is open as normal. The upper pink car park is temporarily closed while a build up of water is cleared, but all other car parks are open.

Car stuck in flood water at Jordanthorpe

A video shows how a car had to be rescued by a JCB after it got stranded in rising water in Jordanthorpe, Sheffield.

A nearby tractor had to save the driver of a stranded car after they got stuck in flood water in Jordanthorpe, Sheffield.

The car driver had to be gotten out of the car and away from the scene by a tractor driver, according to a witness.

Update: The following roads are flooded or closed in Sheffield

Bus operators First South Yorkshire and Stagecoach, as well as the council's Streets Ahead team, have tweeted that the following roads in Sheffield are flooded and are affecting the following bus routes:

98 - Totley Brook Road is closed in its entirety. Services are being diverted via Baslow Road to Totley (97).

No. 76 - Due to flooding at Abbey Lane/Bocking Lane, services are diverted via Meadowhead roundabout, Greenhill Avenue and Bocking Lane in both directions.

No. 52A - Beaverhill Road is blocked due to flooding. Services will divert via Retford Road & Furnace Lane in both directions.

Additionally for 52a, Due to a fallen tree on Heavygate Ave, services will divert via Heavygate Road from Hillsborough.

No. 18 - Due to flooding at Upwell Street buses will be using Jenking and Hollywell street in both directions.

X5 - Retford Road is currently blocked. Service towards Dinnington diverted via Beighton Road & Chesterfield Road. Service toward Sheffield diverted via Swallownest Crossroads Chesterfield Road, A57 & Beighton Road.

No. 272 and no. 81/82 - Heathersage Road is flooded.

No. 20/24 - Heely Bridge is flooded. Service 20 to Hemsworth - via Bramall Lane, Myrtle Rd, Spencer Rd, Carrfield Rd, Meersbrook Rd & Carfield Ave in both directions. Service 24 to Lowedges - via Wolseley Rd, Abbeydale Rd, Woodseats Rd in both directions.

137 - Due to flooding under Fife Street Bridge. Service 137 will be diverting Blackburn Road - Medowhall Road in both directions.

#ROTHBUS Service 21. Rotherham - Harthill (Todwick) - Rotherham. Due to Whiston Brook Flooding buses are unable to serve Whiston. Service will be diverting East Bawtry Road - Pleasley Road in both directions.

Meanwhile, the council's Streets Ahead team says Penny Lane and Mosborough Parkway are also flooded, with Mosborough Parkway northbound closed entirely.

More cars have been stranded trying to drive through deep water in Sheffield.

Sheffield weather: Latest river levels for Don, Porter Brook and Sheaf as Storm Babet flood warnings issued

Record levels have been reached at some measuring stations in Sheffield, with the water still rising.

The Porter Brook at Sheffield station had reached 1.03 metres as of 1.15pm today, Friday, October 20. The highest previously recorded there was 0.81m during the 2007 floods, in which two people died.

Man wades to safety as car car gets stuck in flooding
