It’s transfer deadline day and for both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday there is expected to be some movement before the window closes tonight.

The Owls have made a raft of signings already this summer with 11 new faces coming in as Darren Moore attempts to build a squad capable of gaining promotion back to the Championship.

Over at Bramall Lane, United haven’t been quite so busy, however the quality of some of those new additions has already been on display in a fine start for the Blades so far this season.

It is believed at this stage to be unlikely that both clubs will be bringing in more new faces but both Moore and his opposite number at United, Paul Heckingbottom, haven’t ruled it out in the run out to the deadline.

What is expected are some players going out, particularly loan moves for those younger starlets on the fringes of the first team.

And there are also a few clubs circling around the best of the talent at the Lane and Hillsborough, just to add a nervousness into the mix before the window closes.

United: Will Osula looks to be heading out of Bramall Lane on loan. Burton Albion had been viewed as his most likely destination until Derby County entered the chase.

Key Events

  • Wednesday have already brought in 11 players this summer
  • Paul Heckingbottom says he would like one more player
  • Sander Berge’s future remains in doubt
  • Championship clubs are keeping an eye on Owls stars

So , Blades fans, you think it’s all over when we hit 11pm?

Think again...

Owls’ promotion rivals Ipswich Town splash the cash

Ipswich have strengthened their squad further as they, like Wednesday, attempt to get out of League One. And they’ve forked out £500,000 to do it. The Tractor Boys have brought in Plymouth’s Panutche Camara.

Pilgrims director of football Neil Dewsnip maintained the club would not sell Camara to a League One promotion rival when Wednesday placed Camara on a list of players they would be keen on bringing in but he’s obviously changed his mind on that score.

Ipswich are looking strong - it’s going to be tight up at that end of the table.

Burnley are at it again

Update on Sander Berge from Belgium as Brugge keep pushing

Belgian football writer Sacha Tavolieri has offered an update from the Belgian side of things as Club Brugge and it’s essentially what we’ve been saying though, from a United point of view, it is good to see that over there they’re being told the same as us...that Berge won’t be going on the cheap.

Here’s a translation of Sacha’s tweets:

“Sheffield United will not let Sander Berge go for less than 30M€, the price of his release clause! Club Brugge is pushing to sign Berge since January & continues the discussions at this very moment but Prince Abdullah “will not sell for peanuts”!

“For its part, the Club Brugge hopes to conclude an agreement close to 20M€ (bonus included) but SUFC must find a replacement. And the transfer of Ishmael Kone is not yet completed ... It’s a race against time.”

He ain’t ... going nowhere

Josh Windass was linked with a move to the Championship recently and that struck a little fear into the hearts of Wednesday fans who know how important the attacker will be in the Owls’ attempts to get back into the second tier. Those fears have been quashed with one word. In fact, it’s not even a full word...

Former Owl could be on the move

Ex-Owls midfielder Adam Reach is the subject of interest from Wigan accrording to journalist Alan Nixon and West Brom seem happy to let him go. The 29-year-old has been on the bench for all of the Baggies’ Championship matches so far this season, coming on in each of them but never for more then 10 minutes.

Former Blade makes another Italian loan move

Former United defender/midfielder Ethan Ampadu has gone on yet another loan adventure and it’s a return to Italy. Ampadu was at Bramall Lane for that forgettable second season in the Premier League and last season had a spell at Serie A with Venezia. This time the Wales international, who is hoping to make the World Cup squad in November, has gone to Spezia. He’ll link up there with Paolo Maldini’s son Daniel, who is also on loan from AC Milan.

Blades’ promotion rivals could be dealt a blow - Everton in for striker as Fulham chase

Ben Brereton Diaz was crucial to Blackburn last season and when he picked up an injury Rovers’ play-off challenge faltered. This season they were hoping his return would fire up another push up the table and they’ve not started too badly. However, the Ewood Park outfit are under a bit of pressure on deadline day.

Fulham have had a couple of bids for Brereton Diaz knocked back and now, reports have suggested that Everton are now making a move for the Chile international. It’s very late in the day for Rovers to replace a player of that calibre and a departure would be a huge blow to their chances of being promoted this time around.
