Exclusive:Work ongoing as Sheffield Wednesday approach takeover deadline - plans afoot

Sheffield Wednesday remain in the process of being moved into new ownership.

The takeover process at Sheffield Wednesday continues, with talks going on behind the scenes to ratify the ownership of US consortium Arise Capital Partners ahead of their self-imposed May 1 deadline.

Bid leader David Storch flew into the UK earlier this week with a view to tying up some loose ends and ultimately finalising the deal. It’s understood that among the errands completed was the formalisation of the consortium’s UK banking arrangements required to complete the deal and run the club. Multiple sources with knowledge of proceedings have suggested a retained confidence that they will hit their Friday target, which has been described to The Star as a deadline for completion.

That deadline has been set amid concerns that should things move past this week, the dawn of the Independent Football Regulator - which takes control over the vetting of new club owners from the next working day May 5 - would inevitably delay the process and eat away at the time the club has to launch much-needed rebuild plans heading into next season.

A sold-out Hillsborough is set to celebrate the end of a long and arduous campaign that has seen crisis-struck Wednesday set a host of unenviable records in hugely difficult circumstances. The hope and expectation remains that they will also be able to celebrate the dawn of new ownership.

Though nothing is complete as of yet, The Star understands that plans are busily being made for that eventuality and among the sold-out crowd will be several members of the families of the prospective directors, with a large number due to arrive from the US later this week. Fans have been advised to arrive to the game ‘as early as possible’.

“Yes, they are working so hard right now to finalise everything,” Owls boss Henrik Pedersen told The Star. “I spoke with David on Sunday evening, and I know they are working so hard to get everything done, and their aim is still to solve everything on Friday, so they can have some positives for the fans on Saturday. I have a big belief it will happen, a big hope and a good belief.”

Pedersen is expected to continue at the club heading into next season having marshalled a desperate situation at S6. The Dane is in regular contact with the prospective new owners and had dinner with the Storch pair along with his family not long ago.

“We have had a lot of meetings,” Pedersen said. “Last time he was here we had a good dinner, Michael, David, my wife and kids, and I have had more meetings with him, more meetings with Michael, more conversations with Tom, and they are really, really ambitious. I really, really hope it will happen on Friday or Saturday. We are speaking more or less every day.”

The process continues.
