Key Sheffield Wednesday midfielder ruled out of West Brom clash
The Owls will not be able to call upon their star man on Saturday
Svante Ingelsson has been ruled out of Sheffield Wednesday’s last game of the season.
The Owls host West Brom on Saturday lunchtime in front of a bumper crowd as the shutters come down on the 2025/2026 Championship season. The match presents Wednesday with one last opportunity to get just a second win of the campaign, a first home victory in more than a year and to finally move off minus points.
But they will have to do it without key man Ingelsson, who will play no further this season because of an ongoing knee problem that has kept him out of the three previous fixtures against Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough and Oxford United.
The 26-year-old’s absence once again is a blow and makes the challenge of beating in-form West Brom even harder. The Baggies were docked two points last week for breaching financial rules but an impressive run of form which has seen them go 10 unbeaten and record five successive clean sheets means they are safe from relegation.
“No, he will not be available,” manager Henrik Pedersen told The Star when asked about Ingelsson. “But he will be fit in the next two or three weeks so he can do all what he has to do in the pre-season. “
Pedersen was speaking at The Star’s annual football awards on Tuesday evening, which was well-attended by dozens of past and present players and managers. Ingelsson shared the Player of the Year accolade with Liam Palmer, who also received the Outstanding Achievement award after making more than 500 appearances for the club.
“Svante and Liam have been two fantastic humans in our group through the whole season,” Pedersen explained. “They have been two players who really have made standards for what is okay, what is not okay, and also when things are difficult.”
