The coffee shop and deli has been a much-loved staple on the road for 23 years.

Owner, Matteo Bragazzi, said the business would stay open for the next four months, before its permanent closure on February 27, 2027.

Posting to social media, he expressed ‘heartfelt sadness’.

He said: “It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce Bragazzis will be closing at the end of February 2027.

“Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming economic circumstances and the increasing sustained pressure on small independent businesses, it is no longer viable for us to continue.”

Matteo thanked customers who had supported the cafe and deli for their unwavering support.

He said: “The last 23 years have truly been a pleasure made possible from the remarkable staff whose loyalty, dedication and personality helped make Bragazzis what it is.

“To every customer who has walked through our door for nearly a quarter of a century: Thank you. You all helped make Bragazzis what it is.

“To the family, whose love, patience and unwavering support have carried us through every chapter of this journey.

“We will still have four months ahead of us, so this is not goodbye just yet - and we fully intend to keep the coffee and japery flowing until Saturday 27th February 2027.”

Customers were quick to share their shock online.

One customer wrote: “This is heartbreaking. Bragazzi’s catered our wedding. Matteo and team have always been outstanding - gutted.”

Carley Stephen added: “ No! You are an institution Matt. Really sorry to hear this.”

“This is so sad. I was heading to Sheffield for a reunion next Summer and you were literally top of my list. So iconic you will be missed from near and far,” said another.

Customers described Bragazzis as the best coffee shop in the world, as they shared their dismay: “The best coffee, and atmosphere and decor, and deli, and sandwiches in Sheffield… or even the world.”

Back in 2021, Matteo spoke to The Star about the pressures of Brexit on his business. He explained that prices had increased following the end of the transition period has created additional import costs and ‘significant’ delays when bringing products into the UK from Italy.

Despite this, in 2025 the café and deli was featured in the Good Food Guide, and just this year received two stars at the Great Taste Awards.

Bragazzis remains open until February.
