Sheffield Wednesday's League One rivals 'pull out' of race to sign winger as trio 'interested' in midfielder
All the very latest transfer rumours from League One ahead of the summer transfer window opening on June 15.
Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to hit the ground running once the summer transfer window opens next Monday.
Following relegation to League One, an unprecedented squad rebuild is required at Hillsborough over the coming weeks to get the Owls in the best possible shape ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Incoming sporting director Simon Wilson is understood to be close to officially starting work at Hillsborough, meaning his arrival should mark a significant juncture in Wednesday’s plans getting off the ground. Countless areas of the squad desperately need strengthening this summer, meaning Wilson will certainly have his work cut out alongside existing Owls staff.
Ahead of the window opening for business in just a few days time, here are some of the latest headlines concerning Wednesday’s League One counterparts...
Duo ‘exit race’ for Colchester talent
League One duo Peterborough United and Reading are ‘out of the race’ to sign Colchester United attacker Kyreece Lisbie, according to a report by the Reading Chronicle. Lisbie, 22, enjoyed a fruitful 2025/26 campaign, scoring 11 goals and registering eight assists in 51 games across all competitions for Colchester, meaning he is the subject of plenty of attention.
Earlier this week, Peterborough and Reading were credited with interest in Lisbie alongside Oxford United, who were relegated to League One from the Championship in the most recent campaign. The U’s, who will be hoping to bounce straight back to the second tier, are said to be still in the running for the winger’s signature.
The report states Oxford and ‘an unnamed League One club’ are battling it out to sign Lisbie, whose father, Kevin, enjoyed an extensive playing career, turning out for the likes of Charlton Athletic, Ipswich Town, Leyton Orient and Colchester.
Lisbie, who will turn 23 in December, joined Colchester in February last year and has since scored 11 goals in 55 appearances. He is under contract until the summer of 2027.
Trio ‘interested’ in Exeter ace
According to a report by Football League World, Blackpool, Luton Town and Reading are ‘interested’ in signing Exeter City midfielder Reece Cole. The Grecians were relegated from League One in 2025/26, meaning they are at risk of losing their leading figures.

Attacking-midfielder Cole enjoyed an encouraging season for Exeter in the most recent campaign, scoring seven goals and registering seven assists across all competitions. All seven of his goals came in League One.
Cole signed a two-year contract extension with Exeter in July 2024, taking him through until the end of the 2025/26 season, but the club recently triggered a one-year extension option to keep him until the summer of 2027, meaning they would require a fee to lose him this summer.
A product of Brentford’s youth system, Cole, it seems, is attracting plenty of attention from elsewhere, and an immediate return to League One might be on the cards. The report states Exeter are ‘likely to cash in for the right price amid their struggling financial situation’.
Additionally, his contract status makes this summer their last meaningful opportunity to bank a fee for Cole, meaning they could be tempted to accept an offer and avoid the prospect of losing him for free later down the line.
