Exclusive:Sunderland figure set to reunite with David Bruce at Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday are in the process of adding new faces to their rebuild effort.
A Sunderland branding chief is set to offer his expertise to the rebuild at Sheffield Wednesday in reuniting with Owls CEO David Bruce, The Star understands.
Bruce made the switch from Wearside at the outset of the takeover of Wednesday by American consortium Arise Capital Partners, making the move up from business chief to CEO after years of experience both at the Stadium of Light and in an important role in the MLS.
Now the Owls are set for another Sunderland hire, The Star understands, with former Black Cats communications lead Chamberlain set to take on what is understood to be a slightly different and newly-created role at S6. The Star is told Chamberlain led on Sunderland’s digital and marketing functions, some of which won awards in his time at the club. The former West Ham United and Barnet figure does not arrive as a replacement for long-serving head of communications Trevor Braithwait, who remains in situ. Chamberlain spent 12 years at Sunderland and appears to have already left the club ahead of his S6 arrival.
The hire comes as part of Arise’s intention to build a greater and more fleshed-out infrastructure to how the club operates after years of neglect by ousted former chairman Dejphon Chansiri. Further names are set to be brought in across a handful of roles as the club’s c-suite structure is revitalised.
Wednesday are in the early stages of a major on and off-field revamp heading into their fresh campaign in League One next season. As reported by The Star, The Owls always aimed to have incoming sporting director Simon Wilson in place sometime ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window on June 15 and as first reported by The Wednesday Word, confirmation of his arrival is believed to be imminent.
Exited Stockport County figure Wilson is believed to have performed some outline duties already in the last days and amid early days transfer discussions and contract talks with existing players, it is expected that the football operation will begin to accelerate there activity as the football world returns from holiday heading into what will be a busy summer.
