Moore is keen to stress the importance of a strong mentality in shouldering the expectation of playing for a club such as Wednesday in a division such as League One.

Some of the players he brought in last year, he said, failed to do so.

“In the first year when I took the job here, I realised it’s not an easy place to come here and play for Sheffield Wednesday,” he said. “It’s a heavy badge to carry.

“When you recruit players, you have to recruit players to come in and handle the expectation, you can’t just recruit anyone because it’s a difficult place with all that expectation.

“I quickly learned that from managing in my first year here. I saw one or two players wilt under the pressure, but also I’ve seen one or two players grow under it.

“It’s about creating that mentality and when you’re recruiting players it’s not just about the player, it’s about the mindset and mentality to handle the large crowd and expectation that is here.”
