The Owls boss had made clear over the last few weeks that he feels the side requires more attacking firepower, a reality that was laid bare in the midweek Carabao Cup win over Sunderland when rookie Luke Cook was brought off the bench.

Former Rotherham United target man Michael Smith was added to the squad in the summer but suffered a pre-season injury that looks likely to keep him out in the short term.

A host of players have been linked with a possible move to the club over the past few months including Hull City’s Mallik Wilks, who remains a target despite the deal reaching something of an impasse.

Work goes on to bring fresh attacking talent into the fold and Moore suggested that while nothing was massively imminent in terms of getting a deal over the line, there were two players in particular the club have their eye on in the short-term.

“We feel if one or two become available up there, we’d like to try and get them,” he told Sky Sports.

“The one or two that we are looking at are different to what we have up there. We have the intention of looking at getting them, but whether we get them or not is another thing.

“Yes we would do [like to bring in more attackers]. I think that would bring more balance to the team.

“But in the meantime we have to keep working with what we’ve got. We feel the business with Smudger [Michael Smith] coming in alongside Greggers [Lee Gregory], with Josh [Windass] coming back to fitness, they’ve been working well.

“We’ve still got Callum Paterson in the building, Sylla Sow is still in the building.

“We’ve got firepower up there and we feel that if we create chances, they’ll put the ball in the back of the net.”

Sow has been the subject of interest from Dutch second tier outfit De Graafschap in recent weeks, though reports in Holland suggest interest is cooling on that front.

The 26-year-old produced a classy finish to score from Dennis Adeniran’s cross and extend his useful scoring record in cup competitions.

But it’s clear the Owls are looking to press ahead to strengthen up top, with a meeting scheduled for Thursday to discuss next steps.

Moore had half-suggested a deal was progressing when pressed on transfer after Saturday’s victory at MK Dons.

But work goes on to bring strikers into the building, with the strengthening of other positions a continued possibility ahead of the transfer deadline on September 1.

“We’re trying to work on them,” he said speaking to The Star after the Carabao Cup win.

“There’s nothing close, but we’re working on them and trying to identify areas where we can offer a little more balance to them team.

“In this transfer window, 24 hours can change a lot of things as we’ve seen from Saturday, it changes.

“We’ve got a recruitment meeting booked in for tomorrow [Thursday], so we’ll see what we’ll knock heads together and see what we’ve got.”
