The largely unknown youngster Luke Cook made the matchday squad having only signed for the club alongside defender Adam Alimi-Adetoro last week, coming off the bench for the final 10 minutes of the match in place of Callum Paterson.

The 19-year-old attacker can play anywhere across the front three and has been plucked out of the non-league scene by Wednesday after a successful trial period.

He most recently played for the likes of Enfield Town and Merstham FC in the Isthmian League Premier Division last season. He has also spent time on trial at Brentford B in recent months.

Cook and Alimi-Adetoro have been signed primarily for the club’s under-21 side and both made their debuts in the win over Swansea City at Stocksbridge on Monday.

Cook scored the opening goal in the 2-1 victory and has clearly impressed in his opening days with the club. He will wear the number 35 shirt this evening and is one of two attackers on the bench for Wednesday alongside Sylla Sow, with Callum Paterson partnering Lee Gregory up top.

Josh Windass has been rested altogether, while Michael Smith continue his recovery from a pre-season niggle.

Owls boss Darren Moore has made no secret of his desire to get some more attacking threat into the squad before the summer transfer deadline on September 1.
