How Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen is preparing for life in League One
Sheffield Wednesday will be back playing their football in League One again next season
Henrik Pedersen and his coaching staff are continuing their research into how they can be successful in League One next season.
Wednesday have got three matches remaining of the Championship campaign before the final whistle will finally be blown on a record-breaking term for all the wrong reasons. The Owls have now gone a record 37 league games without a win and have not won a league fixture at home in a year.
Pedersen, who still has two years left to run on a contract he signed last summer, is plotting ahead for life in the third-tier next season which includes analysing data, talking to contacts and watching live games. The Dane is hoping to pick the brains of Lincoln City sporting director Jez George this week. The Imps are set to be crowned champions of League One this season despite a modest budget. They will be playing in the second-tier for the first time since 1961.
Before the Charlton Athletic clash, he told The Star: “We will meet each other Monday, Tuesday or Thursday next week. As part of the bigger process, for the best possible preparation for League One, Tuesday evening we saw five live games, all the coaches were at games. Last week and the week before we also saw live games.
“We are also speaking with other clubs, I think this is our responsibility to speak with people who know this league up to date and see what we can learn from them. I have big respect for all the teams who have had success and why should we not learn from them in our next step to get success in League One.”
Lincoln have enjoyed great success this campaign despite having the lowest average possession (42%). However, Michael Skubala’s men rank best for goals from set-pieces (29) and clean sheets (17). Their approach goes against the modern day trend and obsession of possession-based football.
Pedersen added: “We have a way how we want to do it. We have all the facts, we have all the facts from the last five years of League One, how do we play effective football in League One. We have some good conversations with people who have been there now, who have been there in the past, we want to be as prepared as we can for the future.”
