M1 Barnsley: Motorway re-opens after serious crash which closed it for over 12 hours
The M1 has re-opened this afternoon after a serious crash closed it for more than 12 hours.
The road was closed between junctions 37 and 36 after a crash in the early hours, with emergency services on the scene.
Shortly after midnight South Yorkshire Police, Emergency Services and National Highways attended the scene of a serious collision involving a car which left the carriageway.
National Highway said a car had left the carriageway. The northbound carriageway re-opened earlier this morning.
But officials have now confirmed that the road is now fully open.
National Highways said in a statement: “The M1 in South Yorkshire is NOW OPEN between J37 Barnsley and J36 Hoyland following a serious collision earlier.
“Thanks for your patience. Have a safe onward journey.”
South Yorkshire Police have been approached for more details of the incident which closed the M1.
