Danny Malin and Sophie Mei Lan: Race is on for YouTube star and BGT finalist to plan whirlwind wedding

Danny Malin, the star behind the Rate My Takeaway channel on YouTube and former Britain’s Got Talent bellydancer finalist Sophie Mei Lan, have announced the date they are due to wed, giving themselves just two months to organise their big day.

Former Leeds butcher Danny popped the question to Sophie Mei Lan, now a journalist, from Sheffield, late last year after a whirlwind romance. And their wedding is happening equally as quickly.

Danny said: “When you meet your soulmate there’s no messing around. Life’s too short.”

Danny, 43, and Sophie, 35, who are expecting their first baby together, have set a date to marry on June 10, 2023.

“Expect entertainment, street food, lots of surprises and a lot of laughter and dance,” said Sophie who wants the wedding to be Yorkshire themed with a touch of the orient as a nod to her heritage.

Sophie added: “We will officially become Mr and Mrs Yorkshire, the nickname people gave us, so we want to make sure we celebrate the best of God's Own County by using Yorkshire suppliers.”

The pair will be vlogging their day as well as it being professionally filmed, photographed and live streamed.

Danny said: “So far we have the venues booked finally and are working with York wedding suppliers who are helping us out.

“So now we’re on the hunt for last minute caterers or street food vans, suit suppliers, flowers, entertainers and all the other trimmings of a wedding I’ve probably forgotten.

“For us it was all about booking the church first and now we’re building on that.”

Danny and Sophie plan to marry at Leeds Minister, with a wedding breakfast and party at the Aria Suite in Leeds afterwards.

Danny is well known in Sheffield takeaways, which he regularly visits to rate them.

In a visit last month he called at Munchies on London Road, which was recently crowned ‘Britain's best takeaway’.
