BBC Radio 2 DJ apologises for 'crime' against Sheffield after Arctic Monkeys slip

A BBC Radio 2 DJ has apologised for his ‘crime’ against Sheffield after mixing up the birthplace of the city’s most famous musical export
Addressing listeners to his breakfast show this morning, Owain Wyn Evans mistakenly described the Arctic Monkeys, who famously hail from High Green in Sheffield, as a ‘Lincolnshire band’.

The slip-up did not go unnoticed by fans of the band, or by BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Ellie Colton, who branded the error a ‘crime against Sheffield’.
She tweeted: “This is a message to @OwainWynEvans of @BBCRadio2 from all the @BBCSheffield listeners… “The @ArcticMonkeys are NOT from Lincolnshire! They are Sheffield’s (BIG) proud claim to fame!
“You have until our show finishes at 10am to right your wrong… our listeners are not happy!”
Thankfully, Owain, who has previously worked at BBC Radio Sheffield, was quick to hold his hands up and apologise.

Asked if he had a message for the Arctic Monkeys, he added: “I just want to apologise for getting the geography wrong this morning and of course I know they’re from Sheffield and it won’t be a mistake that’s repeated by myself on Radio 2.”
Ellie accepted the apology graciously on behalf of Sheffielders, telling Owain: “I think people have forgiven you now but don’t worry I’ve got this on a hot key now so I can just pull it out whenever I like really.”
