Aerial pictures capture drama of South Yorkshire 'volcano' fire, as firecrews remain on site at scrapyard
‘It looked like a volcano erupting’
Pictures show the size of the fire which raged at a South Yorkshire industrial estate, which has kept firefighters busy last night and throughout today.
The aerial picture shows firefighters dealing the the blaze at the site at an industrial estate on Boulder Bridge Lane, in Carlton, Barnsley, which was compared to a ‘volcano’ by one nearby resident.

It also shows double decker buses on the site, understood to be bus scrapyard, and the plume of black smoke which was visible for miles.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service expects its crews to be there for the rest of the day.
They said in an update this afternoon: “Please be aware that Boulder Bridge Road is currently closed and will be for several hours. So please avoid the area if possible.
“Those living nearby and anyone who can smell smoke in the wider area should continue to keep their windows and doors closed.”
Nearby residents have described the scene they saw. One said on social media: “We live in Carlton it looked like a volcano erupting with continual explosions as well.”
People were able to see the smoke from several miles away at the peak of the fire last night.
