Firefighters battle flames through the night at South Yorkshire industrial estate blaze

Dramatic pictures show a blaze which has kept South Yorkshire firefighters busy through the night.
Pictures issued by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service show flames at the site of the fire on an industrial estate at Boulder Bridge Lane, in Carlton, Barnsley.
Penistone Fire Station said in a statement last night: “Penistone’s appliance and water unit are currently at a large scrapyard fire in the Carlton area of Barnsley. Crews will be working throughout the night and into the morning.”
By 11pm. there were 10 fire engines, one aerial ladder platform and a number of operational support vehicles at the scene of the fire, which involved scrap metal and tyres.

“We anticipate to be on scene throughout the night and into tomorrow morning,” said the service.
People have been asked to avoid the area, and those living nearby and anyone who could mell smoke in the wider community was advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
People living well away from Carlton reported smelling the smoke, with the smell still being reported this morning.
