South Yorkshire Police say they are linking up with Yorkshire Water rangers to take action, after a spate of incidents near Langsett Reservoir, near the Sheffield-Barnsley border.

They are carrying out patrols throughout the weekend, they have warned.

Barnsley West neighbourhood policing team said in a statement: “Alongside Yorkshire Water rangers, we are continuing our patrols at Langsett, which is a repeat location of illegal raves.”

Police say that under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, they have powers to stop illegal raves.

Officers can remove attendees, seize sound equipment, and close roads within a five-mile radius.

The statement added: “You may think raves are 'just a bit of fun'. However, they cause significant noise disturbance and ASB, safety risks, and damage to land.”
