‘A lovely lad’: Tributes paid to loving father found stabbed to death in street

Tributes have been paid to a man found stabbed to death in a Barnsley street as the police probe into his murder continues.

Stephen Riley, aged 43, was found injured in Darley Avenue, Athersley, at around 11pm on Friday, June 26.

A post mortem examination revealed a fatal stab wound to his chest.

Two arrests were made in connection with the death over the weekend.

A 37-year-old Barnsley man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 41-year-old Barnsley woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender

They both remained in police custody last night.

Posting on Facebook, Anna Roberts wrote: “RIP my boo, love and miss you loads my darling baby.

“Words can not describe how we as a family are feeling right now.

“RIP daddy too, you will be sadly missed by us unborn Riley twins too. Good night, God bless.”

Ali Borrow added: “You didn't have a bad bone in your body mate. Never been a fighter, just a decent ‘geezer’ and loved being a dad.”

Sharon Cherryholme described the death as ‘so incredibly sad’ and said that Stephen was ‘a lovely lad’.
