Retail chain Aldi announces expansion plans for Sheffield supermarket site
Development plans drawn up for supermarket ste
The company says it wants to extend its site on Archer Road, near Abbeydale Road in the city, and has drawn up plans for the scheme.

In statement sent to Sheffield Council as part of a planning application for the proposed extension, the company reveals it wants to grow its existing store on the site, from 1,342 sq m to 1,738 sq m.
It would mean the actual sales floorspace increasing from 915 sq m to 1,253 sq m .
However, it would also mean a reduction in the number of car parking spaces from 86 spaces to 81.
The company says it wants to increase the building a size something in line with its average store size, which would mean it could be stocked in the same way as most of its other stores.
In its application it states: “In summary, the proposed Aldi discount foodstore will represent a high-quality development and will promote a contemporary design using an appropriate materials palate which also respects the site’s largely commercial context, to the benefit of the wider locality.”
The company says it wants to start as soon as it gets planning permission for the project.
Earlier this year it was revealed that Aldi plans to open two more stores in neighbourhoods of Sheffield.
The company had included the neighbourhoods in a list published on its website showing where Aldi is seeking locations for new stores.
In its list of ‘site requirements’ it includes Woodhouse and Nether Green.
Aldi currently has more than 1,050 stores across the UK and is working towards a long-term target of 1,500.
Last year the company described a £650 million investment plan. And its new store openings included one in Hillsborough, near Sheffield Wednesday’s ground on Penistone Road.
