They are the young stars of Nativity: The Musical, the latest show from Sheffield’s STOS Theatre Company.

Inspired by the 2009 movie hit, the stage version of the family favourite features all the hits from the film - including Sparkle and Shine, Nazareth, One Night One Moment and She’s the Brightest Star - along with a whole host of new songs filled with the spirit of Christmas!

It’s the comic and heartwarming story of the children of St Bernadette’s School and their attempts to stage a nativity to top the annual show by their rivals at Oakmoor, the posh private school that always takes top honours for their Christmas show.

But things get really complicated when teacher Mr Maddens promises that a top Hollywood producer will come to see the St Bernadette’s show and turn it into a film.

And ensuring that the show maintains the youthful spontaneity that made the original such an enduring Festive favourite, the STOS team have brought together special teams of almost 50 young performers who will share the roles of St Bernadette’s and Oakmoor children at performances from November 17 to 21.

“We knew there was plenty of young musical theatre talent out there but we were overwhelmed by just how many great singers and actors turned up for the auditions back in the summer,” said the show’s director Keeley Kilby.

The children are all aged seven to 12 and are split into two teams as the warring pupils of the very different schools.

“We are now in our 126th year of presenting great shows and it seems entirely right therefore that we should be showcasing the next generation of South Yorkshire community theatre talent,” said Keeley.

“They’re all very excited and looking forward to show week, especially knowing that there are now so very few tickets left for any performances, which really will make it a very special theatre debut for them all.”
