Sheffield artist Self Esteem hits the big time with first appearance on Jools Holland
A Sheffield artist has described her breakthrough performance on BBC’s Later With Jools Holland as a ‘dream come true’.
Rebecca Taylor, who performs as Self Esteem made her bow on the famous show in an episode which first aired on Friday, June 18, and is still available to watch on iPlayer.
The artist, who began her musical career as one half of indie duo Slow Club, released the acclaimed debut solo album Compliments Please in 2019, followed by an EP Cuddles Please last year.
She performed her latest single I Do This All The Time, described as a part-spoken-word ode to all the frustrations and societal norms that cloud expectations of ‘correct’ womanhood, on the show.
Discussing the experience, she said: “Finally played Later with Jools Holland! Dream come true stuff!”
Self Esteem is due to appear at the Leadmill in November and to headline the Sunday event of the Get Together weekend festival at the Foundry in Sheffield this August.
