It was confirmed this week that defender, Reece James, would be staying at Hillsborough for the duration of the 2022/23 season as per the terms of his loan deal, and it would appear that Darren Moore is confident of the same being said for his young Nottingham Forest loanee.

For McGuinness, however, a transfer embargo at his parent club, Cardiff City, has become a cause for concern amongst supporters, with many fearing that the in-form centre back could be recalled next month when the transfer window opens up again.

Moore is hardly flush for central defenders at present with Ben Heneghan, Michael Ihiekwe and Dominic Iorfa all sidelined, so fans are understandably antsy about the former Arsenal youngster.

When asked if they’d had any assurances on Mighten or McGuinness, the Owls boss told The Star, “With Alex, we think we’ll be fine until the end of the season, and the other is Mark McGuinness and that’s the one we’re going to have to monitor and see week-to-week in terms of how it goes. I thought he was good again, so we’ll see how that goes over the next couple of weeks.

“It’s just the game, it’s where it’s at. We’ll monitor it, and then go from there.”

All three loanees are likely to feature tonight as the Owls play host to Port Vale, with the trio having played their part in the 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town on Boxing Day.
