With some of their promotion rivals dropping points yesterday, it’s up to Wednesday to take advantage and they will be looking to build on a fine display and victory over MK Dons on Saturday night.

We might not get to see a goal as majestic as Barry Bannan’s against the Dons but Owls fans will be hopeful that another victory will be on the way with just a few matches remaining in the quest to make it back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

Key Events

  • OWLS XI: Peacock-Farrell, Hunt, Palmer, Storey, Mendez-Laing, Bannan, Byers, Paterson, Berahino, Gregory
  • Owls 1 Crewe 0 (Gregory pen)

I kind of feared this might happen. After all that early endevour and goalscoring opportunities for Wednesday, the game has settled a bit and Crewe look like they have weathered the storm ... for now at least.

Here’s that early miss from Berahino

Still not sure how he’s managed it to be honest. Looks harder to miss from there

This time it’s Gregory who saw the ball fall invitingly in front of him about four yards from goal and he didn’t connect well, with the effort bobbling wide. Should be at least 2-0 here

It’s all Wednesday

Just into the 11th minute and all the play is taking place in Crewe’s half. If The Owls get one soon they could rack up a load

As you can well imagine, every time Barry Bannan touches the ball he is being implored to shoot by the Owls fans. He’s had one go but didn’t quite catch it

It should be 1-0. Jack Hunt knocks the ball across goal to an unmarked Berahino and with the goal gaping, he somehow manages to put it over the bar.

Soon after he scuffs another chance after Mendex-Laing is denied by a great save from Richards.

So, to offer a little explanation as to who’s playing where...

Liam Palmer (right), Jordan Storey and Marvin Johnson are the three central defenders with Jack Hunt and Mendez-Laing as the wing backs.

Callum Paterson is playing in the centre of midfield but quite advanced

Wednesday are shooting into the Kop in the first half

Fans are coming off the concourse and taking their seats. I’d imagine most of them have been wondering how Darren Moore is setting the team up tonight. It’s not exactly clear from the starting XI, is it?

Perhaps understandably, there aren’t many who have made the trip from Crewe. I think I could actrually count them, but I won’t.
