Wednesday have had a raft of loan players head back to their parent clubs and decisions have been made on the Owls released list, with Saido Berahino, Sam Hutchinson and Chey Dunkley having been moved on.
Decisions will be made by the quartet of players offered deals by the club; namely Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Jack Hunt, Massimo Luongo and Joe Wildsmith.
But with more or less every club in the EFL having now published their ‘released and retained’ lists after Saturday’s deadline – and just for fun – we scoured the free agent market to scope out a few we think the club could fit the bill.
Last week we put together this list of players already available to be signed for free, including Freddie Ladapo.
And a little earlier we put together this list, which included Harlee Dean and 12 others.
Here are a few more names Wednesday could consider to bring in for nothing.

9. Korey Smith - Swansea City
Yet another player who will get second tier interest, 31-year-old midfielder Smith has been a key performer for both Bristol City and Swansea at Championship level in recent years. He'd add something to the Owls midfield, but it might be difficult to talk him into a step down. And that's before you consider the financials.. Photo: Ryan Hiscott

10. Michael Hector - Fulham
The fan favourite returneth? A former Owls player of the season after that loan campaign in 2018/19, former Chelsea man Hector appears to be cut from Moore's favoured cloth in terms of a centre-half; aerially strong and good on the ball. Barry Bannan has already admitted on social media he'd be keen for a reunion - but there will be plenty of Championship interest, you'd think. Photo: Alex Livesey

11. Kristian Pedersen - Birmingham City
Another imposing defender that would tick a few boxes at S6, 27-year-old Denmark international Pedersen would be an ambitious addition. Standing at 6ft2, he is a favourite at Birmingham, where he played alongside another Owls maybe in Harlee Dean. Released over the weekend but will have options. Photo: Alex Morton

12. Jeremie Bela - Birmingham City
An energetic attacking player who hasn't exactly set the scoring tallies alight, Bela would offer legs to an attacking department that is already short of Florian Kamberi and Saido Berahino. At 29, the diminutive 29-year-old plays mainly out wide and would be an interesting addition. Photo: Tony Marshall
