Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson gives George Dobson transfer update amid Sheffield Wednesday interest

Sheffield Wednesday target George Dobson has been the subject of plenty of speculation recently.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has confirmed that the club has not received any official offers for Sheffield Wednesday transfer target George Dobson.

Following reports earlier this week claiming that Wednesday were "advancing in talks" with the Championship club over a loan move for the midfielder, The Star reiterated its understanding that completing the deal could prove difficult.

Despite signing Millwall duo Barry Bannan and Billy Mitchell already this summer, Wednesday remain light on numbers in midfield, meaning they are actively looking to strengthen that area of the team before the end of the transfer window.

The Star revealed that Wednesday admire Dobson last month, but warned at the time that a deal would be difficult to get over the line. The former Charlton Athletic midfielder was a regular fixture for Wrexham last season, making 40 Championship appearances and contributing two goals.

Following numerous media reports over the past few days, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson, speaking ahead of his side's Carabao Cup first-round clash with Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Friday evening, said that the club had not received any formal offers for the 28-year-old.

"There have been rumours about Dobbo, but we haven't had any offer for him at all,” Parkinson told the media on Thursday lunchtime.

“Sometimes somebody says something on Twitter and it escalates into something much bigger than it actually is. As things stand, there's been no official offer for Dobbo."

Dobson joined Wrexham from Charlton Athletic in July 2024 and helped the club secure automatic promotion from League One in his first season at the Racecourse Ground.

The Red Dragons then narrowly missed out on a Championship play-off place last term, finishing a very respectable seventh in their first season in the second tier for more than 40 years.

Wrexham strengthened their midfield options on Wednesday by completing the signing of Ben Whiteman from Preston North End. As a result, it remains to be seen whether they will allow Dobson to leave the club before the transfer window closes in just under a month's time.
