'Unbelievable football club' - Tony Pulis shares Sheffield Wednesday wish following takeover

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Tony Pulis is excited about the club’s future following a recent change in ownership.

Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Tony Pulis is hoping the recent takeover at Hillsborough will transform the club’s fortunes following a turbulent period under Dejphon Chansiri.

Arise Capital Partners completed their takeover of the club at the beginning of May, buying Wednesday out of administration, and they have wasted no time in implementing changes designed to help the club improve both on and off the pitch.

One of the US consortium’s key priorities, alongside rebuilding the squad this summer, has been to improve facilities at both Hillsborough and the club’s Middlewood Road training base. The latter has undergone cosmetic upgrades, while infrastructure work and new premium matchday experiences have been introduced at Hillsborough, including the ‘Hirsty’s Social’ project.

Pulis, of course, saw Wednesday’s troubles under Chansiri up close, spending a brief spell in charge at Hillsborough during the latter stages of 2020. Appointed in mid-November to replace Garry Monk, the former Stoke City boss departed before the end of December after winning just one of his ten games in charge.

Although a run of poor results was the driving force behind former chairman Chansiri’s decision to sack Pulis, the Thai businessman said that “other issues” had contributed to the termination of his contract.

Almost six years on from his time at Hillsborough, Pulis, who has not been in management since, is pleased to see Wednesday getting themselves back on their feet. He insists that everyone connected with the club deserves to look ahead with optimism.

Pulis, speaking to Midnite, whose Built Different Index ranks all 92 clubs across the football league, said: “I am absolutely delighted to see the new ownership because Sheffield Wednesday is just an unbelievable football club, a truly fabulous institution with such rich history and passionate support.

“Hopefully the positive changes around the place completely transform the complexion of the entire club moving forward.

“Everyone connected with Wednesday has been through so many difficult moments and turbulent times over the past ten years or so, so you really hope that all of those past frustrations are finally washed away and they can look towards a much brighter future.”
