New fixture date emerges for Sheffield Wednesday

The Owls will enter the FA Cup at the first round stage

Sheffield Wednesday fans can mark down another fixture date in their diaries.

Although the League One fixtures for the 2026/2027 campaign are not due to be released until June 25, the FA Cup dates are out.

The Owls will enter the historic competition at the first round stage following relegation to League One. Those in the Premier League and Championship come in at the third round. This means Wednesday will have to progress through at least two rounds before getting a potential money-spinning tie against a top-flight side. Entering at the first round means they will come up against a fellow third-tier team, a club from League Two, or a non-league side.

Last term, Premier League side Brentford knocked Wednesday out, easing to a comfortable 2-0 win in the third round at Hillsborough in front of a crowd of just over 10,000. At that point in the season, Owls fans were drained by the club's dire situation, and many opted to take a break from S6. Had the picture been rosier, a much bigger attendance would have watched on, as the crowds against Norwich City and West Brom proved.

The Football Association has released the dates for the FA Cup next term. Round one is due to place on Saturday, November 7. Round two is on Saturday, December 5. The third round is Saturday, January 9. As always, games could take place over these weekends depending on TV picks.

The prize money up for grabs has not yet been confirmed, but last year’s first round winners got £47,750, £79,500 in the second round and third round pocketed £121,500.

Manchester City won this year’s FA Cup, beating Chelsea 1-0 in the final thanks to a second-half strike from Antoine Semenyo.
