While the Owls aren’t in the best form themselves over the past few months – winning just three of their last 16 games in all competitions, PNE aren’t much better off and currently find themselves on a seven-game winless run that has seen them pick up two points from the last 21 available.

Preston have scored just once in their last four away games in the Championship (Wednesday have just three in the last eight at home), and have lost all of their last five trips to Hillsborough stretching back to 2012, but did win the reverse fixture 2-1 against the Owls back in December.

Midfielder, Daniel Johnson, and winger, Tom Barkhuizen, are the two men to watch in terms of their contributions, picking up 23 goals and 11 assists between them over the course of the campaign, though the likes of Josh Harrop and Paul Gallagher can’t be ignored either.

Not all four have been able to feature since the restart for PNE, however Alex Neil will be eager to try and squeeze them all back in at Hillsborough when things get underway on Wednesday night.

This week’s clash will be the 112th time that the two teams have met in all competitions since their first encounter – a 3-1 Preston win in 1888 – with things even at 43 wins each and 25 draws.
