There were eyebrows raised at half time on Sunday as Kieran Lee was replaced at the heart of the Owls’ midfield by young Alex Hunt, but the manager explained after the game that it was a precautionary measure after Lee felt a ‘tightness in his calf’ they they wanted to manage.

Meanwhile, Tom Lees (hamstring) was once again left out of the squad completely, but Monk appears hopeful that he could be up for consideration when they host Preston at Hillsborough on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to the media after the 2-1 defeat to Swansea City, Monk said, “I hope so… With Kieran it was just precautionary, so we’ll have to see him. We’ve got a short turnaround so we won’t know until we’re back in training tomorrow or even on Tuesday.

“With Tom, the good thing with him - he felt his hamstring in training and we sent him for a scan - is that the scan came back clear. Which is good for him and us to know that.

“We’ll just be dictated by him and his feeling of when he can return. Hopefully that’ll be this week.”

Wednesday will be desperate to return to winning ways once more as they seek a victory at S6 for the first time since back in February.
