It’s the time of year where the Owls have to make a call on all of their youngsters who are getting too old to be part of the U18s, with decisions to be made on whether or not to offer them professional contracts and a step into the U23s or not.
The Star has previously reported that the likes of Alex Bonnington, Paulo Aguas, Basile Zottos, Corey Glaves, Alex Hare, Will Trueman, Luke Yates, Charlie Curtis, Luke Hall and Jay Glover are all on the cusp now, and it remains to be seen at this stage which of them will take the step up at Middlewood Road.

Hide AdBut the youngsters are certainly staking a claim for an extended spell with the Owls based on recent form, and have now won three consecutive games by +3 goals, keeping clean sheets in all three, as they climbed up the table in the U18 Professional Development League North.
Yates, Curtis and Trueman were all on the scoresheet on Saturday in their 3-0 win over Cardiff City, making it 11 scored in three games by the young Owls without conceding a goal.
It came on the back of a 5-0 win over Millwall and 3-0 victory at Bristol City, games in which Zottos, Glover, Bonnington, Aguas and Hall all managed to get on the scoresheet as they sought to stake their respective claims for professional deals that would be seen as the next step in their careers.
As previously reported, it’s likely that decisions on who will be sticking around are only likely to be made next month once it’s become clear which league the senior team will be playing in in 2021/22, so there’s still time left to impress.
