Wednesday were beaten 3-1 by Middlesbrough on Saturday, a result that would have relegated the club if Birmingham City hadn’t come from behind to topple their struggling rivals, Derby County.

So Darren Moore’s side got another stay of execution, although it is still a mammoth task for them to close a four-point gap on the Rams with just two games left to play – although the two do face off on the final day.

Sheffield Wednesday social media blackout confirmed as football takes as stand

Green was one of the few to come out of the Boro loss with any real plaudits after he put in a good performance on just his second Wednesday start, winning the penalty that got them level and also putting some big chances on a plate for both Josh Windass and Jordan Rhodes that weren’t taken.

The attacker moved to Hillsborough in January as a free agent, signing an 18-month deal with the club, and he admits that he’s got no plans to try and move on at the end of the campaign – even if the worst happens and League One awaits.

Speaking to The Star over the weekend, the 22-year-old attacker said, “I’ve still got another year after this and I’ve come here to play football… When I left Villa I was a free agent for a little bit due to the circumstances of what’s going on.

“I’ve missed so much football this season, and I just want to play. My main thought is to be here, it’s where I want to be.

“Wherever we are, whether it’s League One or the Championship - if I can get a good season under my belt in the year I’ve got left then I can only be happy with myself.

“I’m not looking to get away, and I’m committed to staying here.”

Next up for Wednesday is a visit from Nottingham Forest in their final home game of the campaign, and Green will be hoping to get another start – his first at S6 – after impressing at the Riverside.
