Exclusive:Sheffield United respond to curious Femi Seriki transfer offer as interest in key man builds again
Feimi Seriki is the subject of interest from Italian side Sassuolo
Sheffield United have rejected an offer from abroad for defender Femi Seriki, The Star understands. The right-back has now attracted attention in the last two windows after the Blades also fended off interest in January.
The former Bury winger is set to start the season as the Blades’ first choice right back after his breakthrough campaign last season, impressing Unitedites with his attacking style down the right. He formed a formidable partnership with fellow academy graduate Andre Brooks, who has since been sold to Norwich City.
And United have since received an offer from Italian side Sassuolo, with journalist Fabrizio Romano suggesting it was a €1m loan fee with a mandatory €5m purchase bolted on.
Our understanding is that United have rejected it, with the offer falling short of the Blades’ valuation. A deferred option payment also wouldn’t benefit them, especially if they lost another key player in an important position.
United only recently signed another right-back as competition for Seriki, in experienced defender Matt Doherty. But as things stand Seriki goes into the season as United’s first choice in that position and is expected to start tomorrow’s final pre-season friendly against Bochum.
