'It's about us' - Sydie Peck outlines how Sheffield United will move on from transfer window setbacks
Sydie Peck fired home the winner to help Sheffield United beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Ewood Park on Tuesday night.
Midfielder Sydie Peck has said Sheffield United cannot dwell on the departures of key players as they attempt to move on from what was a disappointing summer transfer window for the club.
After already losing Andre Brooks and Gustavo Hamer to Norwich City and Coventry City respectively, the Blades also found themselves saying farewell to Callum O’Hare on transfer deadline day, as he sealed a big-money move to Championship rivals Wrexham.
Despite the exits of arguably their three most creative players, United have made a steady start to the season, taking nine points from their first six Championship matches. They secured their second victory of the campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 away win over Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday evening.
After Kristi Montgomery had opened the scoring for Rovers with a fantastic finish, United flipped the game on its head before half-time at Ewood Park, thanks to goals from Tom Cannon and Peck.
Although United were forced to dig deep to secure all three points, it was the ideal response to Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Norwich City.
And as manager Chris Wilder continues to try to find a way forward amid the losses of three important players, Peck has insisted that he and his teammates must stick together to ensure the Blades enjoy as strong a season as possible.
“We can't think about that,” Peck told BBC Radio Sheffield, reflecting on the exits of key individuals. “Yes, players have moved on, but we've got a good group.
“We've got to stick together, keep working on things and keep grinding out results and winning games of football. It's about us; it's not about anyone else.”

Despite losing key players and an off-field ownership battle threatening to derail proceedings on the pitch, United have made a very respectable start to the campaign, losing just one of their first eight matches in league and cup.
Asked if United are in the process of laying the foundations for as successful a season as possible, Peck continued: “That's the aim. That's what we want to do. We want to have a good season all together.
“And, like I said, we need to all stick together and keep working hard.”
