What Jordan Ayew told his agent after learning about Sheffield United transfer interest

Sheffield United completed the signing of former Leicester City and Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew on Tuesday.

New recruit Jordan Ayew has said he did not require much convincing to join Sheffield United following a conversation with manager Chris Wilder, admitting that he quickly informed his agent of his desire to move to Bramall Lane.

United confirmed the addition of Ayew on a one-year deal on Tuesday afternoon, and he was on the bench for the 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park a few hours later.

Ayew, who made four appearances for Ghana at the World Cup this summer, had been a free agent since leaving Leicester City at the end of last season. He spent time in his homeland over the summer, training at his dad’s club in a bid to keep fit while he waited for an opportunity to present itself.

United were left short in the attacking department following the end of the summer transfer window last week, meaning they were keen to explore the free-agent market. In Ayew, 34, they have recruited an experienced operator who can fulfil multiple duties in advanced areas of the pitch.

As he begins to settle into life in Sheffield, Ayew, who scored six goals in 42 Championship appearances for Leicester last term, has revealed that he was immediately determined to finalise a move to Bramall Lane as soon as Wilder reached out to him.

“I feel like it happened really, really quickly because, obviously, I was in Ghana, and I think the manager called me last week, Friday or Thursday,” Ayew told United’s YouTube channel. “So, when the manager called me, we had a mutual feeling.

“I didn’t think twice, I just took the opportunity. The most important thing for me is to help the team and, obviously, for us to have a great season.

“I have a lot of desire this season to make an impact and to help the team because we have a good squad, and there are a lot of positive things we can do.

“The manager, obviously, when he called me, it was straight away. I didn’t even think twice. Obviously, I had a few options, but I didn’t think twice.

“I took my phone and I called my agent, and I was like, ‘I’m going to the Blades.’ That’s where I felt it was right for me, and I felt it was the right place for me as well. So, it was just mutual, and I’m happy to be here.”
