Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder assesses Patrick Bamford's league-leading statistic

Wilder explains how United can get the best out of top goal scorer Bamford

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has assessed how he can get the most out of Patrick Bamford after the striker led the Championship in a key attacking statistic.

The seasoned striker has recorded the best numbers for expected goals per shot, which essentially means any chance he does get to get a shot off on goal is a high-quality one.

The former England international has scored five goals from just seven shots on target so far this season.

Bamford is currently the top goal scorer for United this season, and is using his experience to his advantage, picking his moments wisely to unleash a shot.

Wilder has insisted that his teammates must play their part in getting the best out of the centre forward.

He said: “(They must) create more opportunities for him. It's pretty simple.

“Getting to an international break, I don't think it helps when your two most creative full-backs are injured, and your two wide players that put pressure on the other two wide players are injured as well.”

Harrison Burrows and Femi Seriki have faced a period on the sidelines for United so far this season, yet they are both fit and available for the match against Wrexham on Friday night.

“We've got four creative players and, obviously, at the start of the season, some creative players went out of the building as well.”

Unitedites were left disappointed after the club sold Andre Brooks, Gus Hamer and Callum O’Hare this summer and were forced to explore the loan and free agent market to replace their most creative players.

The Blades boss added: “So, to be more in control, to have more box touches, to create more around the edge in the final third is something that we have to do, need to do, and are showing signs of doing that.”

United went into the October international break on nine points from eight games, but since the restart have taken seven points from a possible 12, losing only once, which saw them play over 45 minutes of football with 10 men.
