Harrison Burrows has admitted he “100 per cent” sees his future at Sheffield United as the Blades look to tie down him and a number of their other key assets to longer-term deals. The former Peterborough United man made his 100th United appearance in victory at Preston North End on Tuesday.
He is expected to make that 101 at Charlton Athletic this afternoon after regaining the left-back spot from Sam McCallum, with a promising partnership with Romelle Donovan leaving right-sided defenders across the Championship sweating.
The 24-year-old will enter the final 18 months of his United contract in January, as things stand, and it is not yet known whether United have an option in their favour to extend it by another year.
But he is in a group of players they are hoping to tie down, also including the likes of Michael Cooper, Femi Seriki and Sydie Peck. Work is ongoing to that end, although boss Chris Wilder admitted nothing was particularly close before the trip to The Valley.
And Burrows admitted: “Definitely going into pre-season, I felt very settled at the club. I've obviously lived in Sheffield for two years now, so I've got to know it a little bit better.
“I really, really enjoy it as a place, as a club. Peterborough was the only club that I'd ever been at before, so moving away was a bit daunting at first. But in your career you've got to take opportunities like this.
“At a massive club like Sheffield United. I’ve had to slowly build myself into it. And I feel at home now.”
Asked by The Star if he could see himself at Bramall Lane for the long term, he replied: “Yeah, 100 per cent. I'm really enjoying my football here.
“I really enjoy being with the lads, I really enjoy the club and I really enjoy the city. So, yeah, I'm very happy.”
Asked again for an update on the contract front, and if any announcements were close, Wilder admitted: “No, I'll tell you when we're really close. Nobody's spoke to me regarding that.
“But everybody's working away with the players that we're trying to tie down. I said in midweek as well, the build is really important. I think that goes sometimes under the radar when you see some certain clubs doing really well, and you see, again, we're having to put it together.
“So, part of that is tying players down to contracts, looking at players that will go the next part of the journey with us as well, and taking that forward.
“The here and now is always important, and the biggest thing is always the next game, the next result, the next performance.
“But it’s part of the management and part of the construction of building a team and making them better on everything, in possession, out of possession ... everything that we do.”
