Derby County braced for big transfer blow on eve of Sheffield United clash as key man 'nears Premier League move'
Derby County are bracing themselves for a real transfer blow on the eve of tomorrow’s clash with Sheffield United as key man Eiran Cashin reportedly edged closer to a Premier League switch. The 23-year-old - who had been linked with the Blades in previous years - is a target for top-flight side Brighton and Hove Albion.
Speculation over the defender’s future only intensified after the Rams brought back Matt Clarke from Middlesbrough earlier this week, although boss Paul Warne admitted earlier this week that, as things stood, he expected to be able to call upon the Republic of Ireland U21 international against the promotion-chasing Blades.
"It's at board level. That's out of my paygrade,” the former Millers chef said. “Cash is training with us – until I get told anything different I don't know. As I speak to you [on Thursday morning] I expect him to be available [against United] although I am mature enough to realise in football things can change all the time.
"As I've been told today, when preparing the team, Cash will be a part of it. That is all I know. I am led to believe an offer has been in for Cash - whether it's going to be accepted, not accepted, negotiated or not, that's a board-level thing, my concentration is just to prepare the team for the weekend. I have spoken to him about it. What me and him talk about is obviously private."
United could field a couple of debutants against Warne’s side, with Hamza Choudhury and Harry Clarke signing on loan, from Leicester City and Ipswich Town respectively, since last Friday’s shock home defeat at home to Hull City.
