From harrowing storylines to crime thrillers and high-teen dramas, here are some of the series that have been filmed in Sheffield that are available to watch now on Netflix UK.

The harrowing multi-award winning four-part drama, Adolescence, tells the story of a family’s world being turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller, played by Owen Cooper in his first major role, is arrested and charged with the murder of a girl from his school.
Although the series was predominantly filmed and set across West Yorkshire, it was the post-industrial and gritty scenery from various parts of Sheffield that further compounded the atmospheric impact of the hard-hitting drama.

Produced by Sheffield-based production company Warp Films, and penned by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, the Golden Globe winning Adolescence was critically acclaimed for its heart-wrenching, intense, yet empathetic insight into the psyche of male rage, radicalisation and toxic masculinity.

It began streaming towards the end of 2023 and figures released earlier this year showed it had become one of Netflix’s biggest success stories, racking up an impressive 199.4 million viewing hours in less than three months.

The show is a time-twisting crime thriller based on the graphic novel of the same name by Sheffield’s Si Spencer.
