The Arctic Monkeys have been nominated for the ‘Best Album’ category at this year’s Ivor Novello Awards. The Sheffield-formed rock band’s newest album, entitled ‘The Car’, has made the shortlist of just five albums for the award.

Other artists nominated for the category include Fontaines D.C, Little Simz, SAULT, and Obongjayar. The coveted awards will once again be held in London, and aim to recognise exceptional songwriting and composition in music from the UK and Ireland.

Uniquely, the Ivors are the only music awards not judged by publishers and record companies, with the songwriting community making up the entirety of the vote. Prior to this nomination, the group’s last Ivor award came in 2007, for their iconic album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’.

They last appeared at the awards ceremony in 2019, when they were nominated for their hit song ‘Four Out of Five’. Other big names nominated for Ivors this year include Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, and Florence + the Machine.

Interestingly, Kate Bush’s classic hit ‘Running Up That Hill’ has received a nomination for the ‘Most Performed Work’ category, due to its resurgence in popularity after being used in Netflix series Stranger Things.

The Ivor Novello Awards will take place in May 18 at the Grosvenor House in London.
