Heart and soul put into cleaning up Rotherham

‘Clean for the Queen’ events in Maltby, Thurcroft and Eastwood were organised by Keep Britain Tidy and Country Life magazine as part of a campaign to spruce up Britain in time for The Queen’s 90th birthday in June.

Friends of Ulley Country Park also held an event, where volunteers picked up litter from the roadside, tidied flower beds and removed nettles.

Rotherham’s Heart of Steel sculpture in Minster Gardens in the town centre has been cleaned up, with artist Steve Mehdi on hand as Streetpride’s graffiti removal team and apprentices from the Rotherham Council’s housing partner, Mears, cleaned the heart with a special solution to get it looking its best.

Coun. Kath Sims, said: “We have already had a great response from local people. The council is always happy to support community clean ups.”
