South Yorkshire Police are urging people to avoid the East Bank Road area following a collision outside Esso petrol station.

A car and motorbike were involved in the crash at around 6.45am.

Despite efforts to save the motorcyclist, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is sealed off this morning while investigative work at the crash scene is carried out.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers are currently at the scene of a collision on East Bank Road in Sheffield.

“We were called at about 6.45am today (Sunday, September 4) to inform us of a collision involving a car and a motorbike outside the Esso petrol station.

“Officers have attended alongside a crew from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the road has been closed as work is carried out.

“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of 999 crews the driver of the motorbike, a man, died at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported at this difficult time. Formal identification is yet to take place.

“The road remains closed at this time as enquiries continue.”
