An unmarked police car responding to an incident was involved in a collision with a suspected drink driver in Rotherham.

South Yorkshire Police said an unmarked black Seat Leon, from another police force, was responding to an incident when it was involved in a crash with a red Volkswagen Golf on the A57 Worksop Road at the junction with Ryton Road, Anston.

The unmarked police car, which was travelling towards Rotherham, is reported to have had its blue lights illuminated at the time.

A 40-year-old woman who was driving the Golf was taken to hospital along with a 12-year-old girl in the car and both were later discharged.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

An investigation is under way and witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage of the incident at 10pm on Tuesday, May 12 is urged to come forward
