Sheffield shootings: timeline of a month of mayhem and latest on arrests

The shootings, believed to be gang-related, are among a wave of crime to hit the so-called ‘safe city’, which also includes stabbings and mass brawls.

On 30 June police were called to Errington Avenue, Arbourthorne shortly before 9.45pm after reports of a several gunshots being fired at a house before they received another call eight minutes later to report shots being fired at a property on nearby Aylward Road.

Three bullet holes were spotted in the front window of the house on Errington Avenue, with the occupant reportedly fleeing because of safety fears. Five bullet holes in the front window of the property of Aylward Road were also visible, with three children inside the front room at the time of the attack.

The two incidents are believed to be linked, police have said. Two men and a woman were charged with attempted murder the day after the shootings and will stand trial in November.

Two days later, two more shootings took place on the crime-ridden Arbourthorne estate. Police were called to reports of gunshots being fired on both Myrtle Road and Kenninghall Road within 15 minutes of each other. No one was injured and police said they believed the incidents were linked to those two days earlier.

Then, on 8 July, police arrested a 17-year-old boy following a firearms discharge on Nodder Road in Woodthorpe on 6 July. He has since been released on bail.

Two weeks later, despite police seizing three guns during a week of targeted raids across South Yorkshire, multiple gunshots were fire in Nether Edge after three shootings in less than 24 hours there in May.

Police were called to Machon Bank shortly before 1am on Thursday, 23 July following reports of shots being fired before receiving reports of shots being fired on nearby Glen Road ‘moments later’. No one was injured but police are treating the attacks as linked.

A 32-year-old Sheffield man has been in connection with the incident. Twenty-four hours later, a dog, believed to have belonged to a gang member, was shot and killed on Abbeydale Road.
