“We are aware that there is a lot of commentary on social media sharing concerns about possible drink spiking incidents in the Wickersley area,” he said.“We have received around half a dozen unconfirmed reports that individuals’ drinks may have been spiked and all remain under investigation.“While the incidents have not been confirmed as drink spiking, we appreciate that locally this is causing worry.”

He added: “I’d like to reassure the community that we are working closely with the local authority and our licensing partners to better understand the issue and establish the full circumstances behind each incident.“There was a high visibility policing presence in Wickersley to support the night-time economy last weekend, which will continue as we progress our efforts to build a clearer picture of what is happening.“If you are out and about enjoying the night-time economy, I’d ask that you remain mindful of the risks of drink spiking and be sure never to leave your drink unattended.

“Don’t accept a drink from someone you don’t know. Remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the bar manager, staff or a bouncer.“If you believe you or a friend has been spiked, please seek medical attention.”
