Man charged with murder after fatal stabbing in Sheffield

A man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Sheffield last week.

Richard Sampson, aged 49, of Fretson Court, Manor, Sheffield, was charged yesterday with the murder of Anthony Sumner and has been remanded into custody to appear at Sheffield Magistrates, Court today.

Anthony was knifed in an attack on Windy House Lane, Manor, just before midnight on Thursday into Friday.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, Anthony could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 15-year-old boy from Sheffield, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released on bail while the investigation continues.

Floral tributes mark the spot where Anthony was killed.

He was a father-of-three and died two days before his daughter’s 10th birthday.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information and witnesses as part of the investigation.
