Sheffield murder probe continues as more tributes are paid to victim

Detectives are continuing to investigate the murder of a man stabbed to death in Sheffield as tributes are paid to the victim of the fatal stabbing.

Alan Anthony Marcus Sumner, known as Anthony, was knifed in an attack on Windy House Lane, Manor, just before midnight on Thursday into Friday last week.

A 49-year-old man and 15-year-old boy, both from Sheffield, were arrested on suspicion of murder and spent the weekend in police custody being quizzed about the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer, leading the murder probe for South Yorkshire Police, said: “We are doing everything we can to establish the sequence of events that led to the tragic death of Anthony.”

He is keen for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detectives are also eager to track down CCTV and dashcam footage from the area on the night of the murder.

Flowers have been left at the crime scene and friends and relatives have paid tribute to Anthony online.

Among those on Facebook is one from Zoe Turner, who posted: Love you Antony, me and the kids are so heartbroken without you.”

John Crowe said Anthony ‘always said hello and had good manners’.

Andrew Woolhouse added: “I cannot believe my bro has gone, I have known him since City School. He was a proper good-hearted kid. He didn't deserve this. The kid was loved by so so many people.”

Jonni Lindley said he was a ‘top kid that stood up to anyone in an argument’ who ‘certainly didn't deserve to die alone on the roadside’.

Antony Sheldon described him as a ‘lovely lad and friend’ and Vicky Dunford said he was ‘such a nice person’.

Natalie Booth posted: “Absolute heartbreaking. This guy had a good heart did not deserve this.”

Scott Crookes added: “R.I.P my friend, I’ll forever treasure the memories I have had with you.”

Stephen Keady said: “R.I.P bro. another good guy gone too soon.”
