A man and woman have been charged and are due in court today over a ‘nasty and prolonged’ assault in Sheffield city centre.

The pair were arrested after an incident in the Castle Square area on Wednesday night.

South Yorkshire Police said the 32-year-old woman, of Victoria Street in the city centre, is accused of assault and criminal damage.

The 39-year-old man, of no fixed abode, is accused of assault, criminal damage and drug possession.

They are due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court.
