They were deployed to Page Hall on Saturday afternoon, in one of a series of outbreaks of violence in city suburb over recent days.

In an appeal for witnesses to the incident, filmed on a phone and shared online, South Yorkshire Police said: “It makes for unpleasant viewing and was no doubt distressing for those who saw it unfold on their street.”

Weapons, including pieces of wood, were used in the brawl in Hinde House Lane as large crowds gathered.

Three men were taken to hospital with minor injuries and have since been discharged.

Superintendent Delphine Waring said: “I would like to reassure you there are extensive enquiries happening and we are making good progress in identifying those involved.

“We believe this incident was sparked by a minor dispute between people who were known to each other and there was no wider risk to the public.

“As part of our investigation, I will also be deploying officers to the surrounding area to make enquiries and offer reassurance to local people.

“Whilst there is already footage of this incident circulating, I would like to appeal to anyone who saw what happened or has pictures or further footage to please get in touch.

“Your help, especially where images have already been shared, often means we can progress our investigations more quickly and achieve results for the community.”
