A 28-year-old man was found seriously injured in Club Garden Road, Highfield, and was taken to hospital but could not be saved.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Mums United member, Sahira Irshad, said drug dealing and gang activity is common on the estate and cameras would deter criminals from congregating there and make residents feel safer.

“The car park where the murder victim was found yesterday is the exact spot where we have been calling for cameras for the past three years,” she said.

“I’ve attended two Full Council meetings to ask in public for CCTV and other safety improvements on the Lansdowne estate because the way it is laid out makes it a hotspot for drug dealing and gangs. It is easy for people to hide there.

“We run football sessions for youths on the pitch next to the car park once a week and see what goes on.”

She added: “It is largely a great area to live – there is a great sense of community, residents all know each other and children play together outside.

“But there is a small minority turning this into a dangerous area to be, so more needs to be done about this now. It is time for action.”

Mums United has tweeted about the group’s concerns and is to contact Sheffield Council again today to ask for cameras to be installed as a matter of urgency.

Anyone with information about yesterday’s murder should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 99 of November 15.

Crimestoppers can also be contacted on 0800 555111.

Sheffield Council has been approached for a response.
