What makes a Sheffield restaurant’s popularity go through the roof? Liam Norcliffe went to The Vine to find out just that...
It was once a well-loved local Indian restaurant that nearby residents raved about.

But now, The Vine’s popularity has exploded (much like their flavours) making it tricky to secure a table on certain nights of the week - as hungry Sheffielders travel from far and wide to sample.
Liam Norcliffe went along to find out the secret behind their recent success, which has led them to an armful of award wins and a growing reputation for one of the best curries in the Steel City.

A recent date night saw us venture to The Vine, an acclaimed restaurant in Mosborough that has earned its reputation through both its food and warm, family-run approach.
Housed in a quaint former pub on School Street, the venue perfectly blends traditional charm with a fresh, stylish interior and soft lighting that creates an inviting ambience for any occasion.
At the heart of The Vine is Mukter Ali, the owner and head chef, alongside his sons Mo and Akram, who manage the front of house. Their dedication and genuine enthusiasm for both the cuisine and their guests were unmistakable.
The familial atmosphere is palpable, with the team connecting effortlessly with diners, many of whom appeared to be loyal regulars. Mo, in particular, stood out for his expert recommendations and patient explanations of the menu dishes—a commendable effort, especially as he recently celebrated becoming a new father.

The menu itself is extensive and thoughtfully priced, offering excellent value for the quality served.
We started with a pickle tray featuring Mukter’s exclusive chilli jam, a surprising highlight that my wife said she would happily buy by the jar.
Accompanying this were perfectly spiced tandoori king prawns and crispy onion bhajis that whetted our appetites.
For mains, I chose the chicken handi, a comforting traditional dish rich with green peppers, garlic, bay leaf, and a vibrant spicy ginger-garlic sauce—ideal for a misty evening.
My wife selected the chicken capacilla, a creamy tikka masala variant garnished with cashew nuts, delivering a silky smooth texture and rich flavour.

Both dishes arrived in generous portions and were presented with care, adding to the pleasure of the meal.
Our experience at The Vine was thoroughly enjoyable and left us eager to return. The combination of excellent food, attentive service, and a cosy atmosphere explains their numerous awards and the high demand for tables.
For those looking to add a little spice to their festive celebrations, The Vine’s Christmas Day menu also promises to impress.
